Suryapet: A Class VII student of Minorities Residential School at Thungathurthy, Jala Venu (13), committed suicide by consuming pesticide at his hostel room on Thursday morning.

Venu consumed pesticide at 8 am in his room and fell unconscious. On noticing him drooling, other students informed the matter to the school staff. After receiving first aid at a hospital in Thungathurthy, Venu was shifted to area hospital in Suryapet where he died while undergoing treatment.

Venu, son of Jala Saidulu and Veeramma, was a native of Vepala Madharam village in Mella Cheruvu mandal of the district. After Dasara holidays, Venu’s parents left him at the residential school at 4 pm on Wednesday.

On Thursday morning, while other students were preparing to go to classrooms, Venu consumed the pesticide and fell unconscious.

According to warden Huseein, Venu had told the other students that he was not interested in stay in the residential school, which was located far away from his native place.

Based on the complaint lodged by the Minority Residential School principal M Purushotham, Thungathurthy police registered a case and took up investigation.
