Hyderabad: Rich tributes were paid to TDP founder and former Chief Minister of undivided Andhra Pradesh N T Rama Rao on his 21st death anniversary on Wednesday.
Rama Rao’s sons Harikrishna, Balakrishna, a TDP MLA in AP, daughter Bhuvaneswari, who is wife of Andhra Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu, several other family members and party leaders visited the NTR Ghat (the late CM’s memorial) here on the banks of Hussain Sagar lake, and paid floral tributes to the departed leader.
Naidu is in Davos to attend the World Economic Forum meetings.Popular Telugu actors Junior NT Rama Rao and Kalyan Ram, both grandsons of Rama Rao, also offered homage to the late superstar and leader.
Balakrishna said his party would make efforts and put pressure on the Centre to confer Bharat Ratna on N T Rama Rao.
Though Rama Rao is no more, he is remembered by the Telugu people in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana even today, Junior NTR said.
Bhuvaneswari and their daughter-in-law Brahmani inaugurated a blood donation camp in memory of the late leader. TDP leaders garlanded the statues of NTR at different places and organised charitable programmes like blood donation camps and distribution of fruits to patients in hospitals.
Legendary Telugu actor NT Rama Rao, popularly known as NTR, launched the Telugu Desam Party in 1982 on the plank of self-respect of Telugu people and created history by storming to power in just nine months of TDP’s foundation.
