Hyderabad: The largest National Flag of India outside of the country was unveiled in London last Sunday, information reaching here from a Telugu NRI group said.
“At the Gymkhana Club grounds in London, on September 10, several Indian community organisations celebrated 70 years of India’s Independence by way of a grand fair. The event was graced with the presence of the High Commissioner of India, British MPs of Indian origin and local leaders.
“As a goodwill gesture for us, handloom weavers from Sircilla, Telangana, weaved a National Flag spanning a length of 51.2 metres (167.11 ft), with a width of 1.3 metres (4.3 ft). This was the largest National Flag ever unveiled outside of India,” Ceeka Chandra Shekar Goud, ‘Telangana NRI forum’ (TeNF UK) group president told Telangana Today.
TeNF UK as an organisation has been working on a year-long programme to promote weavers from Telangana by sourcing handloom material directly from them, Goud said.
TeNF UK represented Telangana State at the event for the third consecutive year, Goud said.
“This year, there was a new spirit and increased enthusiasm as we set up a stall to promote Telangana’s culture and traditions.”
Indian-origin British MPs Virendra Sharma, Seema Malhotra and AS Rajan, as well as other local MPs visited the stall and appreciated the efforts of TeNF UK, Goud said.
“Our authentic Telangana food – Hyderabadi Biryani was served to all the guests who visited our stall,” added Goud.
The stall was set up and organised by TeNF UK founder Gampa Venu, president Ceeka Chandra Shekar Goud, advisory head Pramod Anthati, vice-president Goli Tirupati, general secretary Sudhakar Rangula, Nagesh Reddy Kasarla, treasurers Naresh Mariyala and Venkat Rangu, joint secretaries Bhasker Pittla and Suresh Gopati, sports in-charge Pittla Elendar, sponsor in-charge Bhasker Motta, Ashok Medishetty, executive members Sridhar Neela, Veeru Chowdary, Satish Vasireddy and Santosh Akula, women cell members Meenakshi Anthati, Joythi Kasarla, Preethi Nomula, Sirisha Chowdary, Kavita Goli, Vani Ansoori, Ramadevi and Rajitha Neela.
