Hyderabad: Two children drown in fountain

Police said the children had come along with their parents from Nandigama in Andhra Pradesh to attend their relative's marriage function on Wednesday night.

Hyderabad: Two children, a five-year-old girl and a four-year-old boy, drowned after they fell into a water fountain at Shubham Convention Hall in LB Nagar here on Wednesday night.

According to the LB Nagar police, the incident occurred around 9 pm when the children Ganta Manaswini (5) and Ganta Jithendra Kumar (4) were playing near the water fountain within the premises of the hall.

Police said the children had come along with their parents from Nandigama in Andhra Pradesh to attend their relative’s marriage function on Wednesday night.

“By the time their parents found them, the children were already dead,” a senior official said, adding that the efforts were on to ascertain what exactly happened.

Based on a complaint from Jithendra’s father, G Shivaji, police have registered a case and the bodies were shifted to Osmania General Hospital morgue for autopsy. A probe is on.
