Hyderabad: LB Nagar is no longer what it was. Once marked by the calm, quiet way life moved on there, the region is now notorious for the traffic chaos, not to forget frayed tempers, perennial clouds of dust in the air and lack of initiative to tackle these.
A few minutes at the LB Nagar junction, which is busy round the clock, are enough to get a glimpse of the situation. Every hour here is rush hour, not because of the volume of vehicles but because of the congested road.
The ongoing Metro Rail works add to the chaos, with the road from Dilsukhnagar to LB Nagar being the only route for vegetable and fruit lorries to head towards the different markets in the region. With no suitable alternative routes available, heavy vehicles are a major source of congestion here.
Along the road from Uppal to LB Nagar, the stretch from Big Bazaar to B.N Reddy Nagar junction is another bottleneck. People from Karmanghat area and Saroornagar are among those affected, apart from the local residents, who point out that though the situation has been the same for years, nothing much has been done.
“The number of four and two wheeler vehicles has increased but the roads are still the same bad narrow ones,” says P. Sree Lekha, who has been travelling on the route daily for the last 25 years. “The roads have to be widened without delay,” she points out.
