Hyderabad: Governor ESL Narasimhan on Thursday said the GST was a bold reform launched by the Central government paving way for ‘One country, One Tax’ system replacing multiplicity of taxes.

Launching the Telugu version of the mobile App of ‘GST Rate Finder’ in Raj Bhavan, the Governor, stating that it was a proud moment, said whenever new reforms were introduced, they give rise to new apprehensions.

“GST is the ultimate advantage to the common man, and it signifies a paradigm shift,” he said and adding that the new tax ragime impacted the common man, traders and the rich alike.

Narasimhan said the Telugu version of the ‘GST Rate Finder,’ the first in a regional language, was a much needed tool and would be helpful for the common man. The Central Excise department should bring about awareness among people about GST and what it hold for them, he said, adding that the new tax regime will take at least six months to one year to settle down.

The Governor said that with the implementation of GST, traders who were outside the tax bracket have now been brought into the tax net. “By broad-basing the tax net, more revenues will be generated for the greater benefit of the country and greater devolution of funds to States for greater development,” he said.

“With the successful implementation of the game-changing reform of GST, India will join league of super economic powers and peoples’ level of happiness will go up,” said the Governor.

Bankey Behari Agrawal, Chief Commissioner, GST & Customs, Hyderabad Zone; Naresh Penumaka, Principal Commissioner, GST; Harpreet Singh, Principal Secretary to Governor; and officers and staff of GST & Customs Department participated in the programme.
