Hyderabad: Using multiple platforms and formats, a bunch of city youngsters have come up with what is presented as country’s first transmedia web series.
Titled ‘Mayday’, a crime thriller, the web series using digital technologies wends its way into the world of comic strips, gaming and animation shorts and mixes it with conventional narrative.
Director of the web series, Kowshik Bheemidi, an engineer who picked up threads in filmmaking at Annapurna International School of Film and Media, along with a group of others from the school is bringing the series alive.
“Most importantly, these pieces of transmedia content are not only linked together but are also in narrative synchronization with each other,” he says.
While Kowshik did the script, Revanth Levaka took the camera. The ‘Mayday’ cast includes Sahaja Chowdary, Kaushik Ghantasala, Bharani, Sharadh Ayaan Eklavya, Bulbul and Phani Vicky Sharma.
“This is going to be an action thriller, a rarely explored genre in a web series in the country, and that is another reason apart from the transmedia narrative we are very excited about,” Kowshik says.
With the available content, the team looks at creating a series with eight episodes. “Once we are done with the release of pilot episode to producers and sponsors, we will pick up the other seven episodes,” he says.
In terms of quality, the team is using Netflix preferred primary cameras and the entire series is being shot and edited in 4K format with high-end equipment.
“For post-production too we are using Netflix’s backlot specifications. All the episodes will be shot and processed in the same quality,” the director says.
To publish the series online, the team is planning to upload the episodes on YouTube and are in talks with some of the YouTube experts and India’s top OTT (over-the-top) content distribution companies.
