Riyadh: Telangana Jagruthi Bahrain chapter launched a unique scheme providing free health insurance for Telangana workers in the kingdom on the occasion of Bathukamma.
The scheme was formally launched by senior Indian diplomat Anand Prasad on Saturday evening at a Maha Bathukamma event in the capital city of Manama.
“We are planning to cover a total of 1,500 Telangana workers under the scheme and have issued free health cards to 500 members on the first day on Saturday”, said Ch. Hariprasad, president of Telangana Jagruthi GCC.
He said that many Telangana workers in Bahrain were not able to avail health facilities for various reasons and Telangana Jagruthi has decided to cover them under medical insurance, adding that the premium is being paid by Telangana Jagruthi. He said that the idea was mooted by MP K Kavitha during her last visit to Bahrain.
Hariprasad added that Jagruthi is not merely confined to symbolic rituals of Telangana but is also actively involved in welfare activities in the Gulf region. Scores of families from Telangana attended the Maha Bathukamma, according to organisers.
