Riyadh: The maiden festival of Batukamma in oil rich emirate of Abu Dhabi in United Arab Emirates has drawn some hundreds of Telugu families on Friday.
The event was held at the main auditorium of Indian Social Center, operates under aegis of Indian Embassy, in the city with scores of women danced and sang around the flowery cones.
The Telangana families mostly young women, decked up traditionally arrived with their flamboyant flower stacks, from Abu Dhabi, Al Ain and from nearby areas.
The families collected various colorful flowers for Batukamma preparation; they activity brought back nostalgic memories from back home where children used to collect various wild flowers. The Telangana ladies in Abu Dhabi creatively substituted locally available flowers like different color roses, camomile, etc. in decorating the Batukammas.
“This was our second year of conducting Bathukamma event in Abu Dhabi, we have received overwhelmingly response from Telangana women in the emirate,” said Pavani, one of the key organiser of the event.
The women were enthusiastic while offering Naivedyam of soaked rice with sesame seeds and jaggery to Goddesses Gouri.
Sharanya Pradeep, who acted in Fidaa, box office hit Telangana movie that shot in Nizamabad, had attended the event as chief guest who enthralled the packed audience. The venue of auditorium was transformed into typical village of Telangana.
The prominent women from Telangana in Abu Dhabi, Pavani, Padmaja, Roja, Archana, conducted the event and Telangana activists Raja Srinivas Rao, Cheruku Prithivi Raj, Vamshi, Gopal, Gangareddy and Srinivas Reddy participated and helped organisers.
Telangana Jagruti – UAE, Dubai based organization, scheduled to conduct event on Friday in Umm Al Quwain, one of the seven emirates that comprising UAE, 70 KM away from Dubai in which former Peddapalli MP, G. Vivek and athelte Naina Jaiswal attended as guests.
A symbolic and formal function has begun in Indian Consulate in Dubai which is being organized by Gulf Telangana Welfare and Cultural Association (GTWCA), a maiden Telangana organization in Dubai, to celebrate the festival on Saturday. Consul General Vipul and other senior diplomats have attended the event, according to organizers.
