Hyderabad: Bathukamma, the floral festival of Telangana State, was celebrated with fervour in Mississauga, Toronto, Canada.
The event, which was organised by the Telangana Development Forum (TDF) on Saturday, September 16, attracted close to 500 enthusiastic members from the Indian community, drawn from different parts of Canada.
The Non-Resident Indians (NRIs) celebrated the floral festival by singing latest Bathukamma songs and women arranged seasonal flowers in brass plates and placed it in the centre to perform dances.
The organisers arranged different traditional Telangana food to the people, who turned up for the event. Later on, the surplus food was donated to the local food bank.
The members of TDF said that by organising such cultural events, the NRIs were contributing towards the cause of ‘Bangaru Telangana’ and promulgating traditional customs among the next generation.
“Bathukamma celebrations began in Canada a week before than scheduled time because the spring season is about to begin here. We are organising this festival here since 2005,” said one of the organisers.
TDF foundation committee chairman Ganta Manik Reddy, Board of trustees chairman Garlapati Jithender Reddy, vice chairman Pinikesi Amith, president Neravetla Srikanth Reddy, vice president Madapu Vijayalakshmi, general secretary Kodam Pawan Kumar, joint secretary Arshad Ghori and many more were present for the event.
