Hyderabad: City Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy on Friday asked arms licence holders residing in the twin cities to deposit their weapons with the police stations concerned or authorised arms dealers on or before February 21.

The Commissioner gave these instructions in the wake of the ensuing biennial elections to the Telangana State Legislative Council in respect of Teacher’s Constituencies to be conducted in the city on March 9. He said penal action would be initiated against those who failed to deposit by confiscating their weapons and prosecuting them under appropriate provisions of law.

License holders can collect their weapons which were deposited on or after March 20 after completion of the election process.

Those who are possessing weapons and employed on guard duty at nationalised banks, public sector undertakings and security personnel in twin cities were exempted, Reddy said in a press release here.
