Visakhapatnam: The Andhra Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation has plans to increase its revenue through parcel and courier services.
Informing this to media persons here on Wednesday, Executive Director (Commercial) of the organisation G Sasidhar said that APSRTC, since 1985, had given the contract to ANL for parcel services.
However, the contract was terminated and the corporation has extended its parcel and courier services under public services on its own.
“ANL was paying us Rs 9 crore every year under the contract. But now, since June 2016, APSRTC has so far earned Rs 15.48 crore only through parcel and courier services,” he pointed out.
He also said while the APSRTC was earning Rs.120 crore through various schemes, now efforts were on to earn as much as Rs.100 crore from the parcel services alone. Door delivery facility was also being there and already 100 personnel were recruited for the purpose so far. In future, there were plans to set up a sound runner system with 10,000 staff, he said.
Mr Sasidhar said that the freight charges of APSRTC were about 20 per cent cheaper than private agencies. An organisation Medical and Health engaged had paid Rs.20 lakh to APSRTC for a single month, which clearly showed the potential the APSRTC has in the area, he said.
Parcel bookings will be accepted at five different places in the city in the near future and they are looking for partners for the purpose, he added.
